I began my career as a primary school teacher in Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs, teaching grades prep to 6. Following a number of years in the classroom I undertook a Bachelor of Social Work degree and worked as a social worker with the Department of Education for 13 years. I had 2 years out of the department to work in the ‘Professional and Education Unit’ of the Department of Human Services. My work here involved training professionals to identify and respond to child abuse and neglect.
