My professional focus has been in biodiversity informatics and more specifically on the development of global biodiversity data networks and services. I have been involved in efforts to develop a comprehensive catalogue of all species and the names that go with them. Names link information about species to our understanding of the worlds biodiversity. A comprehensive taxonomic thesaurus is critical to supporting access to information about species and I've been involved in the development of taxonomic name services to support this.
