Design Against the Elements is a competition open to all eligible architects willing to make a difference. Chosen as 2009’s Designer Village Challenge, the competition aims to build environmentally sensitive and sustainable structures meant to withstand the force of natural disasters. Having a permanent homestead that is effective against the forces of nature will not only offer a sense of security previously unknown to the residents of affected areas, but will also offer the residents a sense of hope that life can go on despite the onslaught of natural disasters. This year, the contest will take place in Taguig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
