I received my phD degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I was interested in studying the intracellular renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the kidney in terms of expression, localization, synthesis, regulation and function of the components of this endocrine system. My thesis studies utilized the NRK-52E cell line, an established proximal tubule epithelial cell model to elucidate the functional relevance of this system. Furthermore, we examined the regulation of the intracellular RAS system under pathological conditions, and in particular diabetes.
