I have worked in the field of nanoscience for a few years now, starting out by studying nanoparticle toxicology, as an MSc dissertation project at the Health Protection Agency. The project focused on looking at the toxicity of nanoparticles commonly used in sun-cream by a variety of in vitro tests. From there I moved on to study a Ph.D at the University of Reading which is part funded by NanoSight Ltd (now owned by Malvern Instruments). The focus of the project is to assess at the surface properties of nanoparticles, and use them to try and manipulate nanoparticle diffusion through biological and polymeric systems.
