I am a science writer. I edit a magazine called Geoscientist. I write books too: Supercontinent - 10 billion years in the Life of our Planet (Granta, 2007) and (Jan 11) "Incoming! - or why we should stop worrying and learn to love the meteorite" (Granta, 2011)
After imagining myself a scientist and getting a PhD in geology, I went into industry and discovered I had successfully bluffed my way through the entire educational process by a combination of a memory for words and a talent for literary imitation.
