Joined Indian Police Service in 1980 in Uttar Pradesh cadre. Throughout my career, I remained posted mainly in the field and gained in-depth experience in ground-level policing, crime-prevention, managing public agitations, supervision of investigation, field operations, maintenance of public order, elections management, and all aspects of security administration, including border management and civil aviation security management. I also got plenty of opportunities for exercise of leadership, personnel management and motivation, and a chance to interact with various governments at the highest level. Was awarded 'Police Medal for Meritorious Service' in 1996 and 'President’s Police Medal.
