The Hunewill Ranch has been in Bridgeport for 150 years as of 2011! Located on the border of Yosemite, the ranch was started as a place to raise oxen used at the Hunewill Sawmills in Buckeye Canyon and Eagle Creek. The sawmills supplied lumber to the town of Bodie during its heyday in the late 1800's. After the railroad came to Bodie and flooded the lumber market, N.B. Hunewill, the ranch's founder, started raising beef to sell to the miners. In 1931 beef was selling for a mere 4 cents a pound.
