My development as a scientist in the field of infectious diseases, molecular and structural biochemistry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal influenced my acceptance into University Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, as a post-doctoral research fellow under the special National Research Foundation-Department of Science and Technology-South African Research Chair Initiative grant. I was awarded the University Witwatersrand prestigious post-doctoral fellowship, given to the top two post-doctoral fellows after 18 months of post-doctoral fellowship in the University.
