Mia, My Eyes Were Opened

A child myself so filled with fear, I could not see the truth;
What I believed would cause me harm, was asking me for love, 
needing to be wanted - waiting for our day of birth.

I counseled with the self-seekers, and took their easy path;
of no remorse or sacrifice, ate the food from fool's mouths,
 void of any conscience- condemning the innocent. 

 Profound darkness came following, indescribable pain;
I sought for years to numb my soul, sleeping without dreaming,
 living without feeling-drinking without memory.
 Mia, my eyes were opened.

A new life birthed from within me, I laid her in her crib;
I saw the picture on tv, a child within the womb,
