The goal is to use human primary cells to model human intestine on a chip that will mimic the tissue dynamics in normal and diseased states. This model will fill the gap between existing animal models and human patients and provide a unique tool for simulating IBD and other GI diseases, testing new therapeutic interventions, assessment of drug toxicity -universal or patient-specific. Furthermore, it can be instrumental in the discovery of novel aspects of disease development owed to distinct tissue elements.
