Your content is how you communicate to the world. Accessible web content is everything because without the ability to reach it, you have wasted efforts. I work in the field of accessibility for the disabled using WCAG 2.0 AA. This IS the most rewarding field I have ever been involved with. And while the percentage of disabled web users may seem low to some, I am more than happy to make sure that 20% have an experience that is just as useful as it is for those who are not disabled.
