The Macmillan Well-Being Programme is launched to empower patients to cope with their illness and move forward following treatment. It is acknowledged that there is not the capacity to support routine follow up as that has been done for so long, but the cancer pathways are gradually being risk stratified such that those who have a low risk of disease recurrence are supported through self management. Systems are put in place to ensure there is a rapid access back into the hospital if needs be.
