Operators are turning to Exception-Based Surveillance (EBS) to improve efficiency and reduce costs by focusing lease operator time on preventative maintenance instead of reactive work. EBS utilizes remote monitoring of wells to alert operators only when issues arise, allowing more time for maintenance and reducing driving. This approach can increase the ratio of wells per operator, lower deferred production through less downtime, and improve safety by reducing driving. Proper implementation requires reliable remote monitoring, change management support, and an integrated EBS program.
