Having spent 8 years at the Interior Department, most recently as Deputy Secretary, I am now doing environmental research, focusing on climate change, ecosystem services, and conservation. I am Co-Director of the Center for Management of Ecological Wealth and a Visiting Scholar at Resources for the Future. I am also serving on a variety of boards, including the American Hiking Society, National Wildlife Refuge Association, Continental Divide Trail Alliance, and others. I am a senior strategic advisor to BTBV and on the Advisory Board of Marstel-Day, in Virginia.
