This document is a job description for a Ruby on Rails contractor position. The contractor will work on a social network startup that is preparing for launch. Responsibilities include having experience working on high traffic consumer sites and dealing with scaling issues. The ideal candidate is proficient in Ruby and Rails, databases, testing, and performance optimization. Additional skills in JavaScript, Node.js, MongoDB, Hadoop, HTML5, CSS3 are desirable. Front-end experience creating interactive components using JavaScript is also preferred.

Our Client is a busy start-up preparing for the launch of their social network, that have a Silicon
Valley enterprise in the heart of their office. They are looking for a talented Ruby on Rails Software
engineer demonstrably Smart.
Experience
You will have worked on a consumer site that has high traffic, and dealt with some scaling problems.
Familiar with git, agile development practices, code reviews
Skills
Be able to Programme with a variety of languages, compiled and interpreted. Worked in an
environment which has involved problem solving
You've used Ruby and Rails in a commercial environment and you're very knowledgeable about the
common frameworks and libraries
You know your way around databases and can comfortably craft complex queries
You can write clean code with tests and can work to improve its performance
As well as Ruby and Rails, any of these would be a plus, and they’ll give you an idea of the areas we
play in.

hack days or open data events
