I am Sensei Mui; officially Venerable Shaku Mui Shin Shi, Acharya) and took formal refuge and bhikkhu ordination as a Theravada monk in Thailand in the Forest Tradition, in 1971. I remained in Thailand until 1976 and after a period of study in Sri Lanka receiving a doctorate in Buddhist Studies (immersing myself in Abhidhamma) in 1976. Returning to the United States I spent several years studying Pure Land Buddhism and took ordination as a Dharma Teacher. I Later studied Soto Zen undergoing unsai tokudo as a Soto Zen priest. During the past 20 years I have studied Tendai (Japanese Vajrayana), Tibetan Buddhism and Vietnamese Zen.
