Graduated in Oceanology from the Federal University of Rio Grande (1978), MA in Océanologie - Université de Bordeaux I (1987) and Ph.D. in Sedimentology and Geochemistry of Aquatic Environments - Université de Bordeaux I (1994).
Is currently Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande, and is in charge of the geochemistry lab.
