I started my professional career as a teacher of Design and Technology and IT at a 6th form college in Nottingham.
After 4 years I fancied a change in direction - and spent the next 15 years in leisure management.

Whilst managing Nottingham Squash Club in the mid-1990s, I took my first steps in to project management.  I wrote the successful Sports Lottery application, securing £750k of the £1.24m budget to extend and refurbish the Club.  After completing the project, I continued to manage the Club and led it to become the most successful facility of its kind in the country.  In 2003 we hosted both the European Team Championships and the British Open Championships.
