I have been involved in physical education and sport since the mid-1970s. I worked in schools, higher education and international sport in the United Kingdom from 1975 to 2002. I moved to Australia in 2002 to join the Australian Institute of Sport as the founding Co-ordinator of the Performance Analysis Unit. I was appointed head of the newly-formed Department of Biomechanics and Performance Analysis in January 2006. I retired from the Institute in December 2007.
I was appointed the founding Director of the National Institute of Sport Studies at the University of Canberra on 30 March 2009 and worked there until November 2013.
