Maria Montessori understood that all humans are endowed with tendencies that instinctively direct our actions: orientation, order, exploration, communication, activity, manipulation, work, repetition, exactness, abstraction, and perfection. When teachers interact with children in ways that hear the need-filled expressions of these tendencies we can truly connect them to the content at hand, and their world.
