After a long 5 year tertiary education, I ended up with a M.Arch in my name. I've spent 2 years (and counting) working as an architect. In that time, I found it increasingly hard to meet my idealistic goals and have our creative input within the industry (as we were trained to do!) due to the cut throat competition of "who can bid the lowest fees & promise highest turnover wins job". This imbalance in the "cheap-fast-good triangle" severely impacted my purpose as an architect to create spaces which change the way we live, spaces that serve a higher purpose.
