George Bernard Shaw once argued that 'ghoti' is a phonetic spelling of the word 'fish.' He explained: 'gh' = 'f' as in 'enough' 'o' = 'i' as in 'women' 'ti' = 'sh' as in 'nation' Herein lies my fascination with the written language.
