 Also known as Data Processing Systems.
 Used to organize and support large amount of transactions of a
business.
 Provides three functional areas:
 System runtime functions (integrity and security of data)
 System administration functions (configure, monitor, and
manage transactions)
 Application development functions (custom business
application)
