Born in Tracy, Calif., and lived in Crescent City, Taft and Corning before landing at age 12 in hometown Chico, city of 100,000 two hours north of Sacramento. (Home of Sierra Nevada beer, rice paddies, almond orchards and the oak forest in the 1938 version of Robin Hood.)
Ran away to work for the St. Petersburg Times, Florida's largest daily newspaper, once I heard it was owned by the nonprofit Poynter Institute. Now I work in the D.C. bureau of the renamed Tampa Bay Times handling digital operations for PolitiFact.
Met my husband in college at debate camp. Sorry, make that a "summer research institute" for intercollegiate policy debate. So we sometimes talk very rapidly about development
