What is Trichomoniasis?
Trichomoniasis, (also called "trich") is a
common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that
  affects both men and women.

Trichomoniasis is caused by a protozoan
parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis and is a
cause of vaginal infections in women and
  urethral infections in men.
Symptoms in Women
 Genital itching and/or burning
 Vaginal or vulval redness
Frothy yellow-green vaginal discharge with a
  strong odor
 Blood spotting
 Frequent and/or painful urination
 Discomfort during intercourse
 Abdominal pain
Symptoms in men

Men are usually asymptomatic, but if a man has
  symptoms, they can include:

         - Unusual penile discharge
          - Painful urination
           -Burning sensation after ejaculation
           -Tingling inside the penis.
effects of trichomoniasis?
Women:
   Discomfort with intercourse
   Itching of the inner thighs
Vaginal discharge (thin, greenish-yellow, frothy or foamy)
   Vaginal itching
Vulvar itching or swelling of the labia
Vaginal odor (foul or strong smell)

Treatments

Treatment is simple. An antibiotic course is all
 that is required.

The drug of choice is metronidazole.
Avoid taking alcohol with this drug as it
  interacts adversely with it.
Abstain from sex till the treatment is
  complete.
If you are not treated?
 The genital inflammation caused by
  trichomoniasis might however:
Increase a person's risk of acquiring HIV
infection if s/he is exposed to HIV.
Might also increase the chances of transmitting
HIV infection to a sex partner.
If you are not treated?
In rare case, trichomoniasis in pregnant women
may cause a premature rupture of the
  membranes and early delivery.
Modes of transmission

The vagina is the most common site of infection
in women, while the urethra is the most common
  site of infection in men.

-These areas also serve as reservoirs of infection.
Modes of transmission

Trichomoniasis is grouped under STDs. It is
most often transmitted in the course of
unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected
  partner.
Almost all of the infections take place through
penis-vagina intercourse or vulva to vulva
  intercourse with an infected partner.
Non- sexual transmission
So, it is possible to contract trich STD if you
come into contact with the following:

   Damp infected towels
   Infected bedding or bathing suits
Toilet seats used by infected individuals.
   Infected Jacuzzis
   Public bath tubs
How Can it Be Prevented?

The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually
  transmitted diseases is to:
Abstain from sexual contact, or to be in a long-
  term mutually MONOGAMOUS relationship
with a partner who has been tested and is
  known to be UNINFECTED.

-Latex male condoms, when used consistently
and correctly, can reduce the risk of
  transmission of trichomoniasis.
How Can it Be Prevented?

There are several ways to prevent
  trichomoniasis:

The most effective is using condoms correctly
  every time you have sex.
How Can it Be Prevented?

Other preventative measures are:

Limiting the number of sex partners.
      Practicing sexual abstinence
Avoiding sexual contact if you think you are
                infected.
