I started my career as electrical engineer, working for a small but very international engineering firm designing control systems for at-sea ship to ship transfer systems for naval vessels, and for vertical shaft mine hoists. My work took me to many countries across 5 continents, with much of my time spent in the developing world.
One such trip took me high up in the mountains of Peru, where my work was improving the corporate bottom line, but conditions "on the other side of the fence" were extremely difficult, to say the least.
