I am an assistant professor in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, teaching and conducting research in the areas of strategic communication and new media.
My research focuses on crowdsourcing, an online, distributed problem solving and production model that uses the collective intelligence of online communities to achieve specific goals.
I was among the first to publish research on crowdsourcing, and my work has been widely cited in the fields of computing, business, and urban planning.
I have a book on crowdsourcing forthcoming in 2013 with MIT Press and have published widely in journals.
