This is why I prefer instrumental music. No lyrics. You can come up with your own mental image and feeling of the song. Listening to instrumental music also awakens musical ability, because the listener is forced to really listen to the melody, bass, and chords. People are so used to top 40 radio pop with obvious lyrics and catchy hooks, that instead of really becoming immersed in the music, they latch onto the lyrics and the hook. But that's not really appreciation of music.
