I architect and build distributed systems. As a researcher in the CTO office, I study technology curves and build systems that address a customer's business needs. I have built sizing/monitoring tools for NetApp FlashAccel, the MixApart caching layer for Hadoop, and the Bonfire system for warming up large caches. I also collaborate with academia to study longer time-horizon problems; MixApart (University of Toronto) and Bonfire (University of Wisconsin) are two such examples. In the past, I have worked on Griffin (to improve SSD lifetimes), a monitoring system for Amazon S3, and pieces of Amazon RDS.
