Training in psychology, philosophy and education at University College Dublin followed by 14 years at Oxford University working at the Departments of Clinical Neurology and Experimental Psychology.
At Oxford awarded an E.P. Abraham Junior Research Fellow at Green College and in 1993 the British Psychological Society’s Spearman Medal. In 1997, awarded an MRC Senior Research Fellowship. In 2005 was awarded the BPS Presidents’ Award for outstanding contributions to psychology and in 2006 the Special Merit Award for Outstanding Contribution by the Psychological Society of Ireland
