During World War I, women took on new roles back home and in the military as more men joined the war effort. Millions of women worked in factories, offices, and businesses like aircraft manufacturing in Britain, while also volunteering for organizations like the Red Cross. Women served as nurses near the front lines, gaining new experiences and recognition for their contributions, as soldiers relied on their medical care during injuries. Though women worked as hard as men, they still faced inequality and were paid less.
2. Home Front By 1914, 5.09 million women worked in Britain. Many women worked in large factories, and offices. Soldiers socks were knitted by women during this era. Some woman worked in business to build aircrafts. Woman served as volunteers for the Red Cross. During this era women played a big part, because at the time it was the women’s job to take care of their families.
