I served as Kentucky Secretary of State from 2004-2011. I am now the Director of the Harvard Institute of Politics.
A memorial to President Kennedy, the IOP's mission is to unite and engage students, particularly undergraduates, with academics, politicians, activists, and policymakers on a non-partisan basis and to stimulate and nurture their interest in public service and leadership.
After practicing law and doing a little bit of business consulting, I was elected Secretary of State in November of 2003 in my first run for political office.
