KidulthoodI've analysed the first 2 minutes of "Kidulthood" to pick out key features of the opening which I can use to develop my understanding of the concepts of British realism films. This knowledge can then be incorporated into my own work.
These titles last for 32 seconds with the upbeat music and sound of children shouting coming in at 20 seconds.
The main two girls featured in the first two minutes are shown as common and disrespectful as they are in school uniform but wear it scruffily with no apparent signs of pride. They are sterotypically "chavvy" looking with heavy gold earrings, black hoodies, and hair scraped into a side pony. Their heavy London accents allow the audience to know where the scene is set.
A school is the only location shown in the first two minutes of the film, with the majority of actors setting the scene by wearing school uniform. The unknown actors are a typical convention of British Realism films.
Mid-shots are the main shots used in the opening of this film, which leaves us unable to see the setting of the film clearly. From what the audience can see the school is run down, and the appearance of the students add to this feeling.
The main characters are introduced by a series of two shots. The  tense atmosphere is aided by the shots being cut together quickly. Quick sweeps and zooms between shots distinguish between characters, disallowing the audience to feel at ease about what is happening on screen. The characters come from a mix of ethnic backgrounds, which is a convention of British Realism.
