After graduating from the University of Virginia, Milena worked as an investment banker at JPMorgan in New York City. Craving adventure and meaning, she quit her job after 2.5 years and become a Kiva Fellow, through which she volunteered at microfinance institutions in Bosnia, Kenya, and the Philippines. In Kenya, she helped to start a program called Safe Spaces that helped teenage girls launch and run their own businesses. She returned to New York at the end of 2010 and started a nonprofit called Pando to help young people step up as leaders and launch their own projects to tackle the problems in their communities.
