The Renaissance Between 1300 and 1600 the Western world was transformed. An extraordinary wave of artistic and cultural innovation shattered medievel society. In art, artist discovered how to paint in three dimensions. They created new genres of art, rich in drama and emotion. Radical new techniques were invented, like painting with oils, and perspective.

She was born in Cremona in 1532.  She was from Italy
She was the oldest of seven children. She had five sisters and one brother. Their names were Elena, Lucia, Europa, Minerva, Anna Maria  and Asdrubale. Here you can see some of them.
She studied with Bernardino Campi and Bernardino Gatti in  Cremona . And (pay attention!) with Michelangelo in Rome.   Bernardino Campi  Michelangelo
In the winter of 1559-1560 she arrived at Madrid to serve as a court painter.     Elisabeth of Valois   Anna of Austria
The famous painting of King PhilipII was long attributed to another painter(Coello or Pantoja).Only recently has Anguissola been recognized as the painting's creator
She died in  Palermo (Sicily)  in 1625.She was  93  years old.
