Although I have worked for almost 30 years in international management positions, I originally trained as an anthropologist, doing research on entrepreneurship in Taiwan, Spain and the former Soviet Union. In 1993, I found myself in a village in Lithuania during the breakdown of the Soviet Union, a time of intense human tragedy. One of the major challenges facing transitioning economies was a lack of entrepreneurial know-how and connections to international opportunities.
