The document discusses the effectiveness of prayer through several biblical examples. It describes how Elijah's prayer for fire to consume a sacrifice was answered, while the prayers of false prophets to Baal went unanswered. Daniel is presented as a model of faithful prayer, continuing to pray regularly even when banned by the king. The document encourages praying with faith, believing that God will answer according to his will. It suggests prayer should include requests, but also adoration, confession, thanksgiving and praise.
2. James 5:15-16
15 And the prayer offered in faith will
make the sick person well; the Lord will
raise them up. If they have sinned, they
will be forgiven.16 Therefore confess your
sins to each other and pray for each
other so that you may be healed. The
prayer of a righteous person is powerful
and effective.
3. Elijah
1 Kings 18
2 different answers of prayers
On Mount Carmel, one day Elijah was telling King
Ahab that after the third year of drought God
would send rain; but Ahab did not believe what
Elijah said. So 400 of Baal's prophets and Elijah,
the prophet of God, came together on Mount
Carmel to pray to each god for fire to come down
onto the altar to see which god was real. The 400
prophets of Baal went first. They cried out, O
Baal, answer us! . Elijah mocked them saying,
Shout louder! Surely he is a god! hours passed
and still Baal sent no fire onto the altar.
4. Elijah Cont.
Elijahs time was up. He did not do the same as the
others though, he ordered some of the false prophets
to fill 4 jars of water and to pour it onto the altar. They
did so 3 times. It was so much water that the water
filled the trench. This in the normal world would be
impossible for fire to burn on that altar, but Elijah
prayed with much faith that his God, God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Israel. Answer me O Lord, answer me so
these people will know that you, O Lord, are God, and
that you are turning their hearts again. Immediately
after Elijah prayed this, God sent fire from heaven. The
fire burned the altar, the wood on the altar, the rocks
surrounding the altar, it dried the water that filled the
trench. The false prophets fell face down and cried out,
The Lord he is God! The Lord he is God!
5. Elijah
1 Kings 18

6. James 1:5-7
6 But when you ask, you must believe and
not doubt, because the one who doubts
is like a wave of the sea, blown and
tossed by the wind. 7 That person should
not expect to receive anything from the
Lord.
7. Daniel
Daniel was a key example of someone who
spent much time in prayer. He spent hours
praying 3 times each day by the window.
Even when the king passed the law saying
that one could only pray to him, Daniel still
prayed three times a day to his God, and for
that he was thrown into the lions den. God
shut the lions mouths. Daniel is one of the
best examples of men who prayed with faith
in God.
8. Praying with faith
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in
prayer. (Rom. 12:12)
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive,
if you have faith. (Mat. 21:22)
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that
the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask
me anything in my name, I will do it (John 14:13-
14)

you asked for. God is faithful to you if you are

Remember that prayer if offered in faith can be
EFFECTIVE!!!

hallowed be your name. Matthew 6:9
