Stories of innovation and diversity in Grand Rapids. I want to introduce you to my friend, Halima. She was born and raised in Algeria and has lived in the U.S. for 9 years. She met her husband, Hussein (born and raised in Iran), 6 months after arriving in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was dining at a restaurant with a friend and Hussein, manager at the time, couldn’t help but ask her out for dinner the next weekend. 6 months later they were married and decided to open their own restaurant in Grand Rapids. The restaurant struggled for years but they persevered and became involved in the community to become more known. They built their business through relationships and a growing number of regular customers. 2 years ago they were able to move their location across the street to a larger, more visible site and business is thriving. And they also passed on their previous location to a friend who is building his new business. Relationships help fuel innovation.]]>
