Shatynski is a Surface Warfare officer who earned his commission in 1979 from the U.S. Naval Academy. While on active duty, his three sea tours included USS Fanning (FF-1076) in San Diego as Deck and Electrical Division officers, USNS Hassayampa (TAO-145) in Subic Bay, RPI as officer-in-charge of the Military Department and USS New Jersey (BB-62) in Long Beach, Calif., as Main Engines officer.
