To be good ‘Computational Thinkers’ and hence effective users of, and more importantly empowered creators with Digital Technologies, students need to be conversant and articulate with: algorithms; cryptography; machine intelligence; computational biology; search; recursion; heuristics; Entrepreneurial enabling, and The use of Digital Technologies to develop and support Critical Thinking skills. While schools have taught many of these areas in the past, opportunities are now being presented where schools can fully embrace those areas traditionally part of a Computer Science type course, but also introduce the fascinating new areas of endeavor such as cryptography and computational biology. Coupled with the increasing enabling of application development and deployment by Senior School students, such as in the creation and deployment of mobile games using Corona and Lua for example, students are able to be powerfully enabled as creative producers, not just passive users. The presentation will give an overview of these areas of Computational Thinking and some outline of how they might be implemented in the curriculum, including current examples from senior IT classes in Queensland who are creating digital apps for Android devices. This presentation will cover some of the ground from my ACEC 2012 talk on this topic (see ºÝºÝߣCast at this link: http://www.slideshare.net/StrategicITbyPFH/computational-thinking-14629222), but expand in a number of areas, in particular some specific suggestions regarding classroom implementation.]]>

https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/profile-photo-StrategicITbyPFH-48x48.jpg?cb=1721026002 I am passionate about promoting Digital Technologies, and especially coding and Computational Thinking. This whole area is what I teach every day. It is an area/skill set that will play an ever increasing and most significant factor in work in the future. The latest research from fya.org.au on 'Job Clusters' confirms this assessment. I maintain a site through which I promote Computational Thinking and my services as a consultant in this area - see https://computationalthinkingk12.wordpress.com/ I also maintain a curation site on this topic - see http://www.scoop.it/t/computational-thinking-in-digital-technologies computationalthinkingk12.wordpress.com/ https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/secretsfromthenewscienceofexpertise-201206221050-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/secrets-from-the-new-science-of-expertise/239812722 Secrets from the New S... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/apdsi2019-herring-190913070343-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/asiapacific-decision-sciences-institute-2019/171468898 Asia-Pacific Decision... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/futureofworkpresentation2019slideshareversion-190703103912-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/the-future-of-work-the-impact-of-it-2019-153340948/153340948 The Future of Work & T...
