In a world characterized by increasingly pressing social and environmental challenges, sustainable development which maximizes economic, social, and environmental well-being appears as a necessity. In this paper, we analyze Germany and Kenya’s achievement of SDGs 4, 9, and, 15 and set out to pinpoint some of the drivers of successful sustainability policies. We put both countries’ policy background through an analytical lens and find that Germany’s multi-stakeholder and collaborative institutions ensure a high degree of inclusiveness and responsiveness to changing needs, which in turn guarantees more successful incorporation of sustainability goals into policy design and implementation. Kenya, on the other hand, seems to include sustainability goals into policy design increasingly, but experiences difficulties translating it into policy implementation]]>
