Shallow groundwater underlying contaminated land is usually an issue of concern. A recent technology called Permeable Reactive Barrier( PRB) has been recognized as cost effective, passive and environmental friendly in situ GW remediation. A reactive material (or mixed) is designed to intercept a contaminant plume to attain remediation goals through various physiochemical processes.Soil Mixing Technology (SMiRT) PRB system has been applied to treat a severely contaminated site using 6 different combinations of materials including Zeolite, Organoclay and Inorgano-Organobentonite.
