This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of distribution network regarding intentional islanding, where the islands contain distributed generation (DG) to supply the local load demand. The objective is to ensure that DGs supply the load at high power quality. The distribution system must be equipped with monitoring and control elements to detect islanding states or to create intentional island configurations. A load shedding algorithm is developed to identify loads that will be disconnected for maintaining the service for the rest of loads in the island. When operating in the island mode, the generator governor controller may be modified to control the output frequency when needed. The system is modeled by NEPLAN software to simulate different components during islanding operation. ]]>
