Food & Beverage Management /slideshow/food-beverage-management/264931774 mz9gew3bvxcg-231226171309-50e992b5
Managing a company in the food and beverage industry is a fascinating task. Food and beverage products are so deeply rooted in the culture of most countries that making and selling them is not only a matter of making and selling good and tasty products, but products that nurture people's body, soul, and heart. Given this, it's not difficult to see that the task quickly becomes complex. The objective of this course is twofold: first, we will focus on contemporary challenges that managers and entrepreneurs in food and beverage businesses should be able to face; and second, we will provide models and tools to design and implement appropriate courses of action to satisfy customers and build an advantage over the competition. This course is made up of four modules and an introduction, each exploring one dilemma that food and beverage companies face. You will be presented with a set of video lectures and guest speakers. These lectures combine an accessible introduction to specific topics integrated with interviews of managers and experts that will give precious insights and examples to the participants. To enhance your learning experience with us, we will make a Documentary on the Excellences of the Modena District available for you, which is in a format that we have developed specifically for this course in order to give you the chance to experience first-hand the territory as our on-campus students usually do. Each module is paired with an evaluated quiz and weekly discussion forums to reflect on the variety of the F&B world, its complexity, and the power of the network that we will build together during the course. Successful completion of the quizzes is required for a course certificate as explained in the Grading Policy.]]>

A GUIDE TO SDG INTERACTIONS: FROM SCIENCE TO IMPLEMENTATION /slideshow/a-guide-to-sdg-interactions-from-science-to-implementation/250995347 sdgs-guide-to-interactions-220114104328
The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in September 2015. It is underpinned by 17 Sustainable Development Goals (sdgs) and 169 targets. National policymakers now face the challenge of implementing this indivisible agenda and achieving progress across the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development worldwide. As the process moves towards implementation, there is a need to address the scope and systemic nature of the 2030 Agenda and the urgency of the challenges. This requires a wide range of tools and science-based analysis to navigate that complexity and to realise the ambition. This report explores the nature of interlinkages between the sdgs. It is based on the premise that a science-informed analysis of interactions across sdg domains – which is currently lacking – can support more coherent and effective decisionmaking, and better facilitate follow-up and monitoring of progress. Understanding possible trade-offs as well as synergistic relations between the different sdgs is crucial for achieving long-lasting sustainable development outcomes. A key objective of the scoring approach described here is to stimulate more science-policy dialogue on the importance of interactions, to provide a starting point for policy-makers and other stakeholders to set their priorities and implementation strategies, and to engage the policy community in further knowledge developments in this field.]]>

How do different types of investors think about an investment opportunity? What kind of securities and contracts do they offer? How should a company decide what is a "good deal"? This course is designed to introduce you to the challenges and pitfalls of financing new enterprises. You will learn the basic tools for valuating companies, including using discounted cashflow analysis in Excel and understanding how to apply this model to your entrepreneurial venture. You will then learn how valuation works with different types of securities that investors use to finance startups, from bank loans to venture capital to angel investing.]]>

2017 Bikeconomy Forum - Supernovavehicle startup story /slideshow/2017-bikeconomy-forum-supernovavehicle-startup/238906567 supernovavehiclestartup-201018164510
Supernovavehicle is a Startup created in partnership with Dama Manufacturing Academy laboratory. The Electric fun Motorcycle mock-up was officially presented during the 2017 MILANO DESIGN WEEK and, in December 2017, it was selected to participate at the 2017 MAKER FAIRE ROME. These two events were extremely useful to collect feedbacks through a survey, which results triggered us to develop the concept of the e-bike for B2B, intended for bike sharing and delivery cyclists. In the same year, Supernovavehicle has been selected at the D2T Start Cup competition in TRENTINO Region and, on 24 October, it reached the final in "Mechatronics" category and has been selected to get boosted by HIT incubator (Hub Innovazione Trentino). On 17 November 2017, the e-bike Startup joined the Bikeconomy Forum "Cycling the Smart Cities" at MAXXI Museum in Rome. ]]>

Integrating parametric design with robotic additive manufacturing for 3D clay printing /antonioarcadu/integrating-parametric-design-with-robotic-additive-manufacturing-for-3d-clay-printing integratingparametricdesignwithroboticadditive2018-200301180026
ABSTRACT This paper presents an ongoing work in relation to the development of a parametric design algorithm and an automated system for additive manufacturing that aims to be implemented in 3D clay printing tasks. The purpose of this experimental study is to establish a first insight and provide information as well as guidelines for a comprehensive and robust additive manufacturing methodology that can be implemented in the area of 3D clay printing, aiming to be widely available and open for use in the relevant construction industry. Specifically, this paper emphasizes on the installation of an industrial extruder for 3D clay printing mounted on a robot, on toolpath planning process using a parametric design environment and on robotic execution of selected case studies. Based on existing 3D printing technology principles and on available rapid prototyping mechanisms, this process suggests an algorithm for system’s control as well as for robotic toolpath development applied in additive manufacturing of small to medium objects. The algorithm is developed in a parametric associative environment allowing its flexible use and execution in a number of case studies, aiming to tentatively test the effectiveness of the suggested robotic additive manufacturing workflow and their future implementation in large scale examples.
