These are the slides from Dames Making Games' "Introduction to Game-Making Tools" workshop. If you want to make a game, there are lots of tools available to help you -- even if you've never made one before, and even if you don't know how to code! This presentation provides an overview of the tools that are most popular with DMG members.]]>

We Built a Community, So Can You (IndieCade East 2014) /slideshow/we-built-a-community-so-can-you/31348523 indiecade-2014-140218112437-phpapp01
The slides from my 2014 IndieCade East talk, "We Built a Community, So Can You." A welcoming, engaged community of game-makers can be a tremendous source of support to its members, but it doesn't happen on its own. I've seen Dames Making Games Toronto grow from a small meetup to a vibrant and busy nonprofit, and people sometimes ask how to start something similar in their own cities. I'll share how we got started, our guiding principles for inclusivity, the challenges we faced, our program structures, and our fundraising methods. If you want to build a new game community, or want some ideas for your existing group, this talk is for you. ]]>

https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/profile-photo-cecilycarver-48x48.jpg?cb=1523531308 I’m a software developer for Bento Box Projects and a non-profit administrator, who in 2011 co-founded the Toronto organization Dames Making Games. A lot of my work is about helping people get involved in video game creation and development, particularly women. Dames Making Games, since its inception, has helped many women from widely varying educational backgrounds develop and refine their first video games. Some of our most successful programs so far include Jeuxly (summer 2012), No-Jam (fall 2012), and Feb Fatale (winter 2013). cecilycarver.com https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/tools-intro-140218170845-phpapp01-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds cecilycarver/introduction-to-gamemaking-tools Introduction to Game-M... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/indiecade-2014-140218112437-phpapp01-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/we-built-a-community-so-can-you/31348523 We Built a Community, ...
