Beginning as an Army private, he eventually advanced to the rank of Brigadier General. He deployed to combat three times since 9-11, each time as an Army Engineer. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University and has master's degrees from Oklahoma State University and the U.S. Army War College. His last military assignment was as the Deputy Commanding General for an Engineer Command composed of 12,000 Soldiers and as the Chief of Staff Engineer for a U.S. Field Army.
