My main focus is to develop a holistic and systemic framework to assess and manage small-scale and large scale fisheries. I have worked for more than 10 years with artisanal fisheries in Costa Rica. My current research comprises the analysis of fishing effort and catch data from a complex multi-specific artisanal fishery where the catch is intended for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. I have worked with participatory observation techniques to collect the data and unmask socio-cultural drivers of fisher´s behavior and effort.
