Colourants with a function; protecting brand integrity In today’s competitive marketplace it is essential to protect brand integrity. An increasing number of product categories like dairy products, beer, juices , energy drinks and vitamin-enhanced beverages but also house hold cleaners and dish washing liquids is packaged in PET. This because of PET’s outstanding clarity and favorable properties like shatter resistance. Many of these products however contain color, flavor or nutritional / functional components that require protection from oxygen ingress and the negative effects of sunlight or fluorescent lighting in retail outlets. To maintain product integrity proper care must be taken to prevent the deterioration of these valuable components. Holland Colours has introduced a number of additives in the field of light and oxygen barrier as well as preform production that create synergy when systems are combined for optimal package performance. The growing use of additives in PET at elevated concentrations poses new challenges to the industry because established recycling streams might be affected. As a responsible industry these have to be faced with a pro-active approach. In this presentation we will show which products Holland Colours offers to maximize product protection through optimized container performance. Next to this we will provide an update on the work that has been done on the post-consumer stage of the packaging life cycle. For our barrier materials there are technically feasible and economical options for bottle-to-bottle as well as bottle-to-fibre recycling. ]]>
