The effect of glass and Kevlar fiber volume fraction on the mechanical properties of epoxy composites, was investigated in this study. Different number of layers, total mass of the non-impregnated fibers and reinforcing materials were used to create the specimens. As a result of the different number of the layers, specimens with varying thickness and total composite mass were produced. Volume fraction was changed, depends on these parameters. Specimens of fiber glass and Kevlar were prepared using the vacuum banging method and epoxy resin as the matrix material. The mechanical behaviors of the specimens were tested under uniaxial tension and three-point bending. Specifically, the samples stiffness and strength, were examined. The aspects of varying layers, fiber properties, thickness of sample and mass of fibers and total composite, i.e. volume fraction was found to play an important role for the design of a composite with an optimized stiffness or strength-to-weight ratio. ]]>

Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) is a composite technology that combines electric discharge machining (EDM) with electrochemical machining (ECM). In this study, ECDM was used for the processing of honeycomb seal structures, and fluid dynamic simulation and experimental study were conducted. A vortex effect was observed, hindering the electrolyte flow. Compared to other fluid supply methods, a bilateral fluid supply can reduce vorticity and velocity, weakening the vortex effect. According to the result and the current signals after discrete wavelet transformation (DWT), the higher voltage and flow rate can increase total energy and exacerbate the vortex effect respectively, and strengthen the EDM and ECM effect, resulting in more processing depth, over corrosion depth, and molten product height. However, the higher electrolyte concentration can reduce the EDM effect, and enhance the ECM effect, which leads to more over corrosion depth, less processing depth and molten product height. This paper presents an analysis of conical components in pressure vessels emphasizing their significance when utilized to transition between different diameters or slopes. It aims to propose enhancements to the European Pressure Vessel Codes concerning conical components under internal pressure focused on improving safety, reliability, and compliance with industry regulations. The influence of cone apex angles, shell geometries and design pressure on cone plate thickness calculations is presented. Cylinder diameters between 1000 and 2500 mm and cone angles between 30属 and 60属 are inputs used to quantify the difference in cone thickness for a design pressure between 10 and 200 barg. The proposed method leads to increased cone thickness compared to AD2000 up to 2.2 mm for the selected range of applications resulting in safer pressure vessel design. Moreover, the proposed approach leads to thinner cones (up to 22 mm for studied range) resulting in significant material savings during manufacturing.]]>

Molecular Dynamics Study of the Structural and Thermodynamic Properties of Sio2 Silica During Cooling Between 5000 and 300k /slideshow/molecular-dynamics-study-of-the-structural-and-thermodynamic-properties-of-sio2-silica-during-cooling-between-5000-and-300k/260053791 12323ijmech02-230821132041-2c038ad7
In this work we observed the evolution of the structural and thermodynamic properties of silica during cooling in a temperature range from 5000 to 300K by the LAMMPS computational code. The structure 2used in this work was obtained from the Materials Project database, containing 144 atoms and with mesh parameters a=b=19.607A属 and c=7.496 A属 and density 1.66. The results were obtained with the use of MEAM and Buckingham potentials reflecting respectively the nature of the alloy and the effect of the SiO silica charge2. However the particularity was observed for the MEAM potential presenting a point around 4376.22K, with a volume of V=2776.242A属3 , mesh parameter Lx=19.362A属 and a density =1.725. For the thermodynamic properties, we showed that the enthalpy decreased with temperature; for the interval from 5000 to 3000K we observed a random distribution of the enthalpy, this distribution was more precise for temperatures between 2000 and 300K; however the specific heat presented an average trend around 6j/(K*mol).]]>

Passive Cooling on the Performance of Photovoltaic Solar Panels Operating in Extremely Hot Weather /slideshow/passive-cooling-on-the-performance-of-photovoltaic-solar-panels-operating-in-extremely-hot-weather/260053661 12323ijmech01-230821131834-61e10b47
The peak power output of Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels is typically rated at 25属C, but in hot weather, their operating temperature rises significantly, reducing energy efficiency and power output. This study investigates a passive air convection cooling method to enhance PV panel performance. It examines the impact of adding fins for improved convective heat transfer on the efficiency and power production of PV polycrystalline solar panels in high-temperature environments. Numerical evaluations using one- dimensional thermal models were conducted to predict the panel's hourly average temperature, efficiency, and power output with and without fins. Without fins, the panel had a yearly average temperature of 35属C, efficiency of 15.0%, and total annual power output of 340 kWh/m族. Simulations with rectangular pin fins resulted in a yearly average panel temperature of 28属C, efficiency of 16.1%, and total annual power output of 365 kWh/m族, a 7.3% increase with an additional weight of 5.3 kg/m族. Triangular pin fins yielded a yearly average panel temperature of 30属C, efficiency of 15.8%, and total annual power output of 358 kWh/m族, a 5.2% increase with an additional weight of 1.8 kg/m族. In conclusion, passive air cooling improves PV panel power output by 5 to 7% in extremely hot and dry climates, with additional fin material weighing 1.8 to 5.3 kg/m族. In the present work, the vibratory behavior of an airfoil is discussed. The airfoil is considered as twodegree-of-freedom structure with hereditary deformable suspensions. The weak singular integrodifferential equation is numerically solved using numerical integration method. Finally, numerical results for the creep response and resonance behavior of the viscoelastic materials were analyzed. These results are obtained for the perfect elastic and viscoelastic suspensions with the nonlinearity feature. As demonstrated in the airfoil model, the equation of motion with hereditary and nonlinear terms successfully illustrate realistic vibratory characteristics of two-dimensional viscoelastic problems.]]>

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS ON EFFECTIVENESS OF ACOUSTIC MATERIAL AS THERMAL INSULATOR /slideshow/experimental-investigations-on-effectiveness-of-acoustic-material-as-thermal-insulator/232034392 9120ijmech01-200415070244
Sound pollution is big problem now-a-days and it causes many health issues. Soundproofing can be used to mitigate the effect of sound pollution, but it adds to the building cost. However, acoustic materials have low thermal conductivity and they may result in saving due to reduced use of electrical energy for heating/cooling of buildings. In the present work, the effectiveness of a commercially available acoustic material, made of Compressed Wood Fiber Cement Composites with a backing of Anti vibration Pad, as a thermal insulator is experimentally investigated. A CAD model of anti-vibration pad material was developed by scanning it with micro CT, converting grey scale data into binary scale by CTan software and extracting 3D- Model from binary data by using Scan IP software. The CAD model was imported into ANSYS workbench for determining thermal conductivity of the anti-vibration pad, which was experimentally validated. The thermal conductivity of composite material was then calculated by Fourier equation. A comprehensive CAD model of anti-vibration pad, composite material and brick-and-mortar wall was used to simulate the variations in room temperature with ambient temperature for one calendar year. The results show that acoustic insulation material also serves as a thermal insulator keeping the room nearly constant with varying ambient temperature.]]>

Through-Hole Exit Characteristics in Drilling Of TI6AL4V and Quality Improvement of Hole Exit /slideshow/throughhole-exit-characteristics-in-drilling-of-ti6al4v-and-quality-improvement-of-hole-exit/134887373 8119ijmech01-190306112057
The removal of macro-burrs formed after drilling has always been a difficult engineering problem, especially on different-machined materials with through holes. This paper aims at presenting an investigation into hole exit characteristics of Ti6Al4V drilled. Plastic deformation at the end of the cutting process or blanking results into the forming of burr, whose degree of impact is mostly affected by the processing parameters, especially the axial feed. Series experiments were conducted to analysis the effect of processing parameter on formed burr. The volume of burr has great effect on work-piece quality and product cost, the burr height formed easily decreases because great attention from scholars and engineers has been paid to, while the burr width size despised naturally plays a great influence on product quality and machining cost. The new de-burring tool are designed and applied in experiment, the decrease in burr width is obviously found, so the removal of burrs becomes much little than that gotten in traditional tool. The resulting indicates a promising future of de-burring in practical application Journals.]]>
